To give things a bit more structure I decided to add 2 types of posts to the blog… Impressions and Opinions.
Impressions: These posts will mainly be based on video footage, trailers and demos and be about games that are usually not released yet.
Opinions: These are basically my reviews of games. I am not a journalist by any stretch of the imagination so I don’t think I am qualified to do proper game reviews.. nor will I attempt to. These are purely my own opinions on games, in other words… how I personally feel about them. I am not even trying to be objective here… these are MY opinions on how much I liked or disliked a game.
PES (Personal Enjoyment Scale): This is my rating system. I felt it was necessary to put the word “Personal” in there so everyone knows this is purely a personal rating and not to be taken seriously.. although you are welcome to if you so wish.
IWell at least not everyone has a negative take on GTAIV. Here is a funny clip from Comedy Central.
I was quite looking forward to playing this game on the DS and after playing it now for a while I am not disappointed. The touch screen only controls was either going to make or break this game and I was rather skeptical about it but after a couple of minutes of play you get used to it and its quite intuitive actually. To attack enemies you simply slash across them with the stylus. To jump you simply flick the stylus up across the screen and to attack on the way down you just slash down again. To throw stars you just tap the screen where you want to throw them.
The visuals are very impressive for a DS game and it moves very fast as well. This game has definitely lived up to my expectations and I am really having fun with it. I have never played a Ninja Gaiden game before this but now I might just check out it's big brother Ninja Gaiden 2 when it's released on the 360 later this year.
Is it just me or is GT5 Prologue one of the best looking games seen so far? I look at the screenshots of this game and can't help to be impressed. If this is a hint of what the PS3 is capable of then we are going to see some fine looking games in the future. Now I just need to get myself a PS3. Check out some more images on Gamespot here.
Check out this clip where Comedian Will Arnett talks to Conan O'Brien about his COD4 gaming. Very funny... and oh so familiar!!
Well the war is (finally) over. No, not the one in Iraq but the HD format war. Earlier today (well yesterday actually since its 3am now) Toshiba announced its discontinuation of its HD-DVD business. Things went downhill pretty quickly for Toshiba recently and I think its a good thing they pulled the plug sooner rather than later. See below for an image of their HD-DVD site.
As far as the console war goes I think this is a huge boost for the PS3 since more people will be willing to invest in HD movie players now that Blu-ray is the winner.... and lets face it, if you going to buy a Blu-ray player you might as well get the PS3 and play some games too. I think PS3 sales will reflect this in the coming months and unless Microsoft can counter this somehow by maybe releasing a Blu-ray add-on for the 360 or something similar then this might be the turning point in the console war as well.
Microsoft released a statement saying: "...we believe it is games that sell consoles and Xbox 360 continues to have the largest next-gen games library with the most exclusives and best selling games in the industry." I think they are very naive if they think its just about the games.. why are they investing so much in Marketplace then if it was just games that sell consoles?? I for one would buy a PS3 as a Blu-Ray player first and as a gaming console second but the fact of the matter is that I still bought a PS3 ... and the PS3 install base still grows. Microsoft needs to consider their next move very carefully and not be so arrogant about their position in the market.
Another thing that needs to be considered is that there are over 100 million PS2's out there and most of those people have not upgraded to next-gen yet. Once they start doing so it is more likely for them to go to the PS3 than to the 360. Microsoft needs to be doing all it can to start winning over some of those PS2 owners.
